- To explore the unexpected and divergent. To give space to new or shy group members, and those who seldom contribute to the debate.
Abstract
When we think about something or a new idea we can use this tool to open up our mind and think in a very broad way: open up to possibilities, go crazy and then see the results.Some will be useless, but there may be a great idea coming out of the impossible.As any brainstorming exercise there is no judgement on ideas, not much thinking, just write as fast as possible anything that comes to your mind.
Content
- Give pen and paper to each participant with ten empty lines. They write as many ideas as possible about a certain topic or product of your choice. Example: washing machine, telephone etc.
- After one minute, stop the group and see what they wrote.The trick here is to see if people stopped before the time at the 10th line or they went beyond. A mind game to see our limitations. (We are a bit playing on competition)Divide the group in two and tell them to start a competition on who writes more ideas on a product or topic in 2 minutes. Here again play on competition to push people to write as much as possible.
- Now people are ready for the game. Divide the group in groups of three and tell them to have two people writing on post-it note and one sticking them to the wall. It is again a competition on who is collecting more ideas. Give 3 minutes, only the ideas stuck to the wall can be counted. Now people should write more than 100 ideas each. It has to be very fast.
- We should now have a wall full of post-it notes. We have the possibility now to score for the best ideas. Give three score point in red for interesting and impossible ideas. 3 in blue for interesting and achievable ideas.
