Expected outcome
This tool makes visible interests that group members share in a visual and communal way.
Abstract
Zones of interest can make visible and highlight different expectations and even tensions on the group. It can be used in:
- the beginning of meetings or events
- in between
- in the end for evaluation
Content
- The group is standing in a circle.
- Each one goes in to the middle of the group, one by one to share their biggest interest/need to join the meeting or biggest wish they want to share with group.
- Everyone else walks towards the center as much as they feel that they share the interest/wish.
- Facilitator can make observations and ask questions if he/she feels need for it.
- Meeting can be also closed the same way to see if all the needs/interests got fulfilled.
- On the final round there can be added question about how do you feel about it, as well.
Wrap up
The same practice can be made later on again to see how well the meeting has fullfilled the needs/interests of the group. Additionally can be used also different ways, depending on what is wished to make visible between individuals and group.It also works as an icebreaker when getting to know each others and connecting with new people.
